Wait! Let me buy you some flowers!

Since the 16th century the Dutch have a leading role in the spread of flowers across the world; as being the centre of production for the European floral market, as well as a major international supplier to other continents. Ever since, flowers have become a commodity, like cargo carried around, travelling from places of production, places of trade, and places of sales, to end up in our living rooms.

I am interested in the faces of this system, of a network, from the hand that plants, to the hand that cuts and then exchanges, packs and ships, that carries, that sells, that receives - all actors and agents in a larger scheme of affect. How are lives intertwined into this system and what can we learn from our positions and positioning in the process?

Flowers travel all around the world, with a value that diminishes dramatically each day after harvest. Functioning as a replacement for things that can’t be said otherwise.
